about

By Dan Rufolo and Joyce Kwon

plus size fairy
[ˈplʌs-ˌsaɪz ˈferi] noun

A twenty or thirty-something disillusioned with a reality that does not match the fairy tales she grew up on. Too heavy to be a real fairy, she cannot fly and has no magical powers. This makes it a struggle for her to completely break free of the mindset, formed by societal expectations, of finding a significant other as the only happy ending.

lyrics

Happy endings for everyone but me
Twirling around in a dress for someone else's dream come true
I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and see who I am—
A plus size fairy that's ordinary

There's no charming prince, no fauns, no witch
Still that pixie dust you're snorting must be working magic here
For you appear in deep sleep, calling, embracing, caressing me
Till I awaken, recall you're taken

I should be the maiden of the hour
Causing war between king and brave knight
I should be the princess in the tower
Free from woe, knowing nothing but you
But I haven't the gold locks of length to pull you up
I'm just a plus size fairy

Happy endings for everyone but me
Twirling around in a dress for someone else's dream come true
I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and see who I am—
A plus size fairy that's ordinary

Simple, steadfast love is all I ask
I don't wish for tragic potion, fragile slippers, agile feats
Just a flawed human with a bit of courage & with the right heart
Still what's this power you hold over me

Is it because I'm a plus size fairy
Is it because I'm stuck in fantasy
Wings wet with reality I keep twirling ...
Waiting for our tale to begin
